Greek Round Table
The Greek National Round Table, held as part of the Safeguarding Children in Sport project, brought together key stakeholders to address the development of athlete safety and protection policies at both national and international levels. The discussion focused on defining the key principles of safeguarding in sport, identifying forms and types of abuse, and outlining concrete steps to implement effective prevention and protection measures.
One of the main outcomes of the meeting was the commitment to creating a comprehensive toolkit to support the implementation of safeguarding policies across different sectors. Participants also emphasised the need for sector-specific protection strategies, ensuring that policies are tailored to the unique needs of various sporting environments.
Moving forward, the next steps include organising targeted training programmes and stakeholder meetings involving universities, sports organisations, and coaches. These initiatives will help reinforce safeguarding measures by promoting awareness, enhancing knowledge, and ensuring that best practices are widely adopted within the Greek sports community. The outcomes of the Greek Round Table will contribute to the broader European effort to strengthen child protection in sport, aligning national strategies with international standards.
